‘Are you ready for your final bow?’
The Woman Under the Stage is a 2023 horror drama film in which a young woman discovers how far she will go to achieve immortality while receiving the role of a lifetime in a mysterious stage play said to be cursed.
Directed by Ezekiel Decker from a screenplay co-written with Logan Rinaldi based on a story co-written with Robert Gemaehlich.
The American Absentia Pictures production stars Jessica Dawn Willis, Matthew Tompkins, Phil Harrison, April Hartman, Robert Gemaehlich, Ashley Spicer, Natali Jones, Jonathan Lamar Egbuna, Andrew Neve and Charles Leon.
Whitney Bennett (Jessica Dawn Willis), a young actress struggling with her mental health, gets involved with a mysterious stage production. She is leery of the show’s legitimacy from the start. It’s a first-time director, working from a script that can’t be revealed until the first rehearsal, and the only copy of which will be burned after a one-night only performance.
As if that weren’t sketchy enough, she has to agree to live in the theatre with the entire cast and crew for the two months prior to opening/closing night. As she doesn’t have much to lose, she agrees, kicking off a dark journey of the soul, pushing herself far beyond her existing boundaries to find out exactly how far she will go to make her name mean something to the world…
Roughly a third of the film’s $30,000 budget was raised through a crowdfund, with 10% of the donations coming from horror writer and director Mike Flanagan.
